A visit to Hallwyl Museum is a kind of fantasy come true. It is a stately old mansion in central Stockholm built in the eighteenth century, which was owned by Count Walther von Hallwyl and his wife, Wilhelmina. It was created in a fashion that it could serve as an office to the Count and a spacious gallery to showcase the huge art collection of the Countess. Additionally, the noble couple spent their winters at the house.
The Hallwyl House is an interesting blend of historical architectural elements and modern amenities, such as central heating, electric lighting, telephones, and also the elevator, which was added later. The Hallwyl House was donated to the state government by the Countess to be converted into a museum in 1920. It was open for the public in 1938.
Besides the grand art collection of the Countess, certain rooms where the royal couple lived are also accessible to the public. The best part is that each and everything in the mansion remains untouched till today. So, it’s a fabulous opportunity to sneak into a genuine noble life.
